The residents of St Paul’s Hostel are delighted with their new pool table which has been made possible by a grant of £500 from OneStop Carriers for Causes. Annamarie Balram, Fundraising Manager said “ Our mission is to help people live through homelessness in order that they have a place where they belong”

Our Trauma Informed Care delivery model is designed specifically to support people ‘live through homelessness’ & interventions provide the skills required to address complex issues, prepare and support their progress into resettlement and becoming productive members of a community that they have become isolated from.  Being active is vital to our residents’ physical & mental health and well-being. Recreational activities that encourage social inclusion, relationship building & trust are an essential element of our work. From an external perspective, a pool table maybe be an irrelevant, non-essential item but in an environment of vulnerable people with complex needs this item breaks down many barriers; enabling people to engage with mutual interest. We are living in challenging times, this has a significant impact on the homeless community and it is vital that we are able to continue to provide, safely, services and activities that are engaging and physiologically beneficial.   Recreational facilities are extremely important for physical/mental health, building relationships; confidence & reducing isolation. An essential pastime for our residents.
