The house first opened in 1991 for men unable to look after themselves or Old Men of The Road. The house was staffed for 24 hours a day and provided a safe, homely environment for these long term residents. Agencies in Worcester had long identified the need for a 'dry house.' The Bromyard Road project was initiated by St Paul's Hostel, who agreed that there was an unmet need. After a short closure, the house reopened in 1996 as a Dry House.
St Paul's Hostel employs one full time project leader at Bromyard Rd, plus 24 hour on-call cover.
In addition the clients receive support from the referring agency and the appropriate drug/alcohol services. Support would include group work, one-to-one counselling and relapse prevention. There is also support for the clients' families.
