Resettlement

St Paul’s Hostel Resettlement Service assists residents in progressing to stable accommodation and a settled home life. We provide practical and emotional support and advice to enable clients to secure appropriate accommodation We work with them on the skills they may need to develop in order for the move to be successful.

The resettlement process

St. Paul’s Hostel manages five resettlement properties where clients can build confidence and skills with the support of staff. These include two bedsits on site, and three shared houses, all walking distance from the Worcester city centre, in total housing fifteen adults.

Clients may also be referred to St.Paul’s Dry House project, for men recovering from substance misuse issues.

Places are allocated on the basis of how long the client has been waiting, but also the appropriateness of the vacancy e.g. the bedsits are useful if a high level of support is needed.

The Resettlement service may also refer residents to other accommodation according to their needs, and provide advice and assistance in applying directly for social housing.

Once resettled, clients will regularly see their Resettlement Worker, and together they put together a support plan to help the client prepare for independent living.

Additional Support

Support volunteers:
Clients may also be referred to the Volunteer Coordinator, who can match them with a support volunteer. The volunteer might offer help with moving or decorating, or offer ongoing support in a befriending capacity.

Accessing financial aid:
Advice and help is given in applying for grants, and the team will supervise the spending of Community Care Grants.

The Furniture Store:
The Resettlement Team manage a store of donated furniture and household items which are offered to clients.

Who are we?

The Resettlement Team consists of two full time workers and one part time worker, all based at the hostel but engaging with clients across Worcester.

Who uses the service?

The Resettlement Team have an open door for enquiries. Entry to the resettlement process, however, is after discussion and completion of a referral form by the client with their keyworker. The service is available to all clients who:

  • Have been living at the hostel for 4 weeks.
  • Are actively managing mental health and alcohol misuse issues.
  • Are not misusing substances, and are willing to be tested (prescribed medication such as methadone is acceptable).
  • Are motivated and willing to work toward independent living with their Resettlement Worker.

If a client disagrees with the decision that he / she is not currently suitable for resettlement, he / she may appeal to the Hostel Manager. Clients can regularly ask for their case to be reconsidered taking into account progress that they have made.

  •
    Progress to independance

St.Paul’s Hostel is guaranteed fourteen single occupancy council flats/bedsits per year. When clients are ready to move on, they may be nominated for one of these places.

Clients need to have been resident in St. Paul’s Hostel or a Resettlement property for three months, and will be prioritised on the basis of how long they have been waiting, and an assessment of their support needs.

Clients need to be willing to continue to engage with their Resettlement Worker, but able to cope with minimal support. Once they have been assisted to move, the Resettlement Team will offer support for an agreed period of time, which initially tends to be twelve months with the option of extending this if needed.
