Criteria for admission

The criteria for acceptance are:

  • that you are homeless
  • that you are over 16
  • that you are able to claim benefits
  • that you have no background of violence against women, arson, sexual offences against teenagers or extreme violence
  • that you are not already excluded from St Paul’s Hostel
  • that there is a vacancy within the hostel
  • The hostel operates on a first come first served basis. However, if you are en route to the hostel, ring up, and if there is a vacancy, a bed will be held for you until an agreed time on the same day. If you do not arrive by that time the bed will be given to the next enquirer.

Occasionally clients will not be admitted due to high support needs.

If you arrive at the hostel under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be asked to stay outside until you are OK to come in

    Exclusions!

Clients can be excluded from the hostel for varying periods of time. Reasons for exclusion include evidence of drug taking on the property, threatening behaviour, bullying, violence and aggression and theft. The exclusion will be discussed by the staff team and the manager at the weekly staff meeting, and the period of exclusion is then decided.

Should a client appeal against a decision, this appeal will be processed by the staff team, Director and finally by the Council of Trustees.
